UNION Promo-Tour Paris 1998
Bruce Kulick and John Corabi were on Promo-Tour in Europe from March 31st to April 10th doing press as follows: Stockholm April 1st, London 2nd & 3rd, Nottingham 4th, Paris 5th & 6th, Amsterdam 7th, Hamburg 8th and Munich 9th.
I had the possibility to go to Paris where I arrived about noon at the Hotel Astoria Opera, the same hotel as they stayed. After a short lunch in a restaurant I went back to the hotel where I met the promoter.
Bruce & John arrived about one hour later than expected. When Bruce saw me he came directly over to me, said hello and presented me to John.
The afternoon was filled with interviews for radio-stations and magazines.
In the evening we went to ALIGRE FM, a local radio-station, where they recorded an interview and a few acoustic songs (what was very funny – John and Bruce know why…). After another interview it was time to go to dinner, for me that was the time I felt to leave them on their own.
The next day started quite well for me as Bruce gave me one of the first UNION T-shirts ever made! He also gave me some UNION guitar picks and a promo poster later that day.
Otherwise this day was nearly the same as Sunday afternoon; interview after interview. Also today I had the possibility to be present all time and get so a lot of information directly from the source about this great new band. One of the major interviews was by HARD ROCK, one of the biggest French magazines.
Among the interviews I had some time to talk to them, taking pictures and just enjoying the time with’em. They both were very nice and signed me some stuff. (As a big KISS-fan and -collector I brought some KISS stuff with me and Bruce was as nice as always to sign me everything.)
About 11 PM we went to a club called 287 ROCK’N’ROLL CAFE in Aubrevilliers (just outside Paris). The French magazine GUITARIST celebrated there their 100th issue with a party. As special guest Bruce and John played shortly after midnight a 20-minutes acoustic set including October Morning Wind, Love (I Don’t Need It Anymore), Pain Behind Your Eyes, Beth and You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away (by the Beatles). A very nice memory is that, when introducing Beth John presented it to Alexander and pointed on me, Bruce added “Yes, the big KISS collector from Switzerland”…

Bruce Kulick und John Corabi waren auf Promo-Tour in Europa vom 31. März bis zum 10. April 1998 und machten Werbung für ihr neues UNION-Album wie folgt: Stockholm 1. April, London 2. & 3., Nottingham 4., Paris 5. & 6., Amsterdam 7., Hamburg 8. und München 9. April.
Ich hatte die Möglichkeit nach Paris zu reisen wo ich gegen Mittag des 5. Aprils im Hotel Astoria Opera, demselben Hotel in dem auch Bruce und John einquartiert waren, eintraf. Nach einem kurzen Mittagessen in einem Restaurant trafen wir im Hotel den Promoter.
Bruce & John kamen etwa eine Stunde später als erwartet im Hotel an. Als uns Bruce gesehen hatte, kam er direkt zu mir, begrüsste mich und stellte mir John vor.
Der Nachmittag war für Interviews für diverse Radiostationen und Magazine verplant.
Am Abend gingen wir zu ALIGRE FM, eine lokale Radiostation, wo sie ein Interview gaben und einige akustische Songs spielten (was sehr lustig war – John und Bruce wissen warum…). Nach einem weiteren Interview war es Zeit Essen zu gehen, für mich war dies der Zeitpunkt sie unter sich zu lassen.
Der nächste Tag startete recht gut für mich da mir Bruce eines der ersten überhaupt existierenden UNION T-Shirts schenkte. Später gab er mir auch einige UNION Guitar-Picks und ein Promo-Poster.
Ansonsten war dieser Tag genauso wie Sonntag Nachmittag; Interview über Interview. Auch diesen Tag hatte ich die Möglichkeit die ganze Zeit anwesend zu sein und so viel Informationen direkt von der Quelle über diese grossartige neue Band zu erfahren. Eines der grossen Interviews heute war mit HARD ROCK, einem der grössten französischen Magazine.
Zwischen den Interviews hatten ich immer wieder Zeit mit ihnen zu plaudern, Fotos zu machen oder einfach die Zeit mit ihnen zu geniessen. Sie waren beide sehr nett und signierten mir einige Sachen. (Als grosser KISS-Fan und –Sammler brachte ich einige KISS Sachen mit und Bruce war nett wie immer mir alles zu unterschreiben.)
Etwa 11 Uhr abends gingen wir in einen Club namens 287 ROCK’N’ROLL CAFE in Aubrevilliers (ausserhalb Paris). Das französische Heft GUITARIST feierte dort das Erscheinen ihrer hundertsten Ausgabe mit einer Party. Als Special-Guests spielten Bruce und John kurz nach Mitternacht ein zwanzig minütiges Akustik-Set mit October Morning Wind, Love (I Don’t Need It Anymore), Pain Behind Your Eyes, Beth und You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away (von den Beatles). Ein toller Moment war, als sie Beth ansagten und John (auf mich zeigend) sagte, sie würden es für Alexander spielen und Bruce erwiderte “Ja, den grossen KISS Sammler aus der Schweiz”…
Kann man mehr von einem Aufenthalt in Paris erwarten?
